CO-VIDEO

THE FIELD – AUG 2020

During the intense time of social restrictions, rapid change and mass action, Co-Video was a simple act of connecting through the medium of video and a query of how our voices may be required to group together in different ways in the extreme COVID-19 climate and beyond.

The Field is a curatorial collaboration between Murwillumbah-based artists Amelia Reid and Byron Coathup. The space is a shared studio housing a small bookshop, artist residency and exhibition program. The Field supports artists in the borderlands area of Northern NSW and SE Qld, providing access to an independent space in which to exhibit, connect and work, encouraging experimentation and contemporary discourse.

‘Surface’ 2020 is an interrogation of material, sound, and actions that were accessible in the studio during COVID-19. Resourcefulness, adaptability and chance are key parts of the artist’s practice, relevant to the context of COVID-19 to where the artist had to rely on things already in the studio. The artist dedicated a series of timeframes to playing with the chosen materials: aluminum sheeting and blue paint leading to the development of an experimental digital interpretation of their properties.

Facilitated by The Field ARI, M|Arts Precinct.
